Another cornerstone of AWUNZ coverage regionally and nationally. With the spinoffs of Infrastructure by Councils and in some isolated cases Parks and Gardens.

 

Some Councils have retained Parks and Gardens which usually includes sports facilities and recreational services including swimming pools, gyms etc. Christchurch City Council is a major investor in this sector and in 2017 applied the living wage to this sector. While providing a lift for a number of staff the relativity issues the application brought with it, remain problematic.

 

Water and Waste/Water remain “in house” for a number of Councils, in recognition of there services as being “core” responsibilities within Council.

 

AWUNZ regionally and nationally has a strong influence in this sector with very good Collective Agreements. There will be greater opportunities in the water services as major players in the market put pressure on Councils to have user pay or metered water as we have seen in some Cities in New Zealand.
