Nick Knight - President

Southland Region


Employed by Invercargill City Council as a Water Treatment Plant Operator

Nick joined the Labourers Union in 1975. In early 1980's Nick was voted onto the South Island Sub Branch Committee. He has been a member of the Executive since January 1991 President of AWUNZ Southern since 1993

 

Evelyn Sooalo

Southland Region


Evelyn became a Union Delegate whilst employed by Lane Thompson in Invercargill – 6 years. In 1985 Evelyn gained a position at Works Civil Construction (Works Infrastructure) where her role as Delegate has continued. Initially Evelyn was employed as a Driver Operator and Charge Hand. Evelyn then progressed to a Foreperson and is currently employed as a Contract Supervisor, where she supervises and co-ordinates a workforce of 15 to 20 people involving roading maintenance and construction; situated in Invercargill, Lumsden, Winton and Riverton Depots. Evelyn has been on the Southern Branch Executive for five years.

Calvin White

Otago Region


Employed by Dunedin City Council as a Water Meter Technician.

Calvin has been employed by the DCC for the past 17½ years in various positions within the Water Department. Calvin joined the Union in 1985, within 6 months he was made workplace Delegate. Calvin acted as Delegate for 6-7 years; and was Elected onto the Executive of AWUNZ in 1990. In Calvin's capacity as an Executive member he has been involved in negotiations and has been responsible for administration and financial decisions. Promoting Union membership and benefits and ensuring workers get any appropriate entitlements. Calvin feels that AWUNZ is a progressive and strong Union that has a place in the workforce for all members.

 

John Sneesby

Canterbury Region


Employed by St John Ambulance Northern Region South Island in the Control Room as an Ambulance Officers/Communications.

John became a member of the Transport and General Workers Union in 1978 and participated in award negotiations. In 1997 John became a member of AWUNZ and became the Regional Delegate for St John Ambulance Northern Region South Island, which John continues to hold. John was elected to the Executive of AWUNZ Southern in 2000. Inaugural Executive member of the Federation of Ambulance Officers Unions New Zealand (F.A.O.U.N.Z) 2001 until current.
